The Gujarat govt has decided to introduce a law to curb unlawful tantric activities, black magic and aghori rituals that sometimes result in the sacrifice of women and children.
The home department informed Gujarat high court that a draft bill for enactment to curb black magic and inhuman activities such as aghori practices will be brought up in the next session of the Gujarat legislative assembly.
This decision was taken after the HC sought a govt response on a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Akhil Bharatiya Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti last month.
Following the PIL, the state govt held a meeting on July 23 with the additional chief secretary of the home department, the DGP (law and order), and the ADGP (CID) crime to discuss the issue.
A week later, the home department informed the HC that a draft bill would be introduced in the next assembly session.
