According to top sources in the government, many charity schemes will be rationalized, and some could even be dropped in the state budget.

Citing examples of schemes like pension, housing and agriculture, sources said that it has been observed that there is a lot of “leakage of funds” in these schemes.

Sources said that some charity schemes could be discontinued because of either being merged with other similar schemes or because of restructuring.

All departments have been asked to identify schemes where restructuring and merging can be done.

Such schemes will then be reviewed at the CMO level after which a decision will be taken on restructuring and merging of existing schemes.

Sources further added that it is highly unlikely that new charity schemes will be announced by the state government which has taken up the exercise to rationalize existing charity schemes.
