With the assembly elections over and the new government having taken over, the state administration has started an elaborate exercise to plan and execute 13 key G20 (Group of 20) meetings which will be held in Gujarat over the next year. India took over the presidency of the G20 on December 1.
Chief secretary Pankaj Kumar held meetings with top officers of various departments of the state administration and is coordinating with the Union government's ministry of external affairs to finalize the schedule and other arrangements for the events that will be held in Gujarat.
Key G20 events pertaining to finance, banking, trade and investment, energy, urban development, environment and climate, tourism and women's empowerment, among others, will be hosted by the state.
G20 is a forum of the 20 largest economies of the world and meets regularly to deliberate on pressing issues facing the global economy.
India holds the G20 global forum presidency from December 1, 2022, to November 30, 2023.
G20 comprises the world's major developed and developing economies, accounting for 85% of global GDP and 75% of international trade, making it the premier forum for international economic cooperation.
India is a founding member of G20 and the other members are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union.
