In a significant move aimed at improving governance and administrative efficiency, the Gujarat government has restructured its Education Department, consolidating school, higher, and technical education portfolios under a single cabinet minister.
Dr. Pradyumn Vaja has been appointed as the new Cabinet Minister for Education, now overseeing the entire spectrum from primary to technical education. The move is expected to enhance coordination, streamline decision-making, and ensure more effective implementation of educational policies.
Previously, education responsibilities were divided: Kuber Dindor handled primary, secondary, and adult education, while Rushikesh Patel managed higher and technical education along with Health and Medical Education.
At the minister of state level, Riva Jadeja has been assigned primary, secondary, and adult education, while Trikambhai Chang will oversee higher and technical education. This dual structure under a single cabinet minister is expected to reduce overlap and administrative delays.
In related changes, Praful Panseriya has been elevated to an independent minister of state with an expanded portfolio that includes Health and Medical Education. Meanwhile, Kuber Dindor’s cabinet responsibilities have been reduced in the reshuffle.
The government stated that the restructuring aims to bring synergy across departments and better serve the state’s education and healthcare priorities.
