In a joint operation, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and Surat crime branch on Thursday caught an Afghan national from the Lajpatnagar area of Delhi, with 8kg of heroin, worth Rs 56 crore on Thursday, said officers on Friday.

According to a statement by Gujarat ATS, DIG Deepan Bhadran received an input from the ACP of Surat city crime branch, B P Rozia, that an Afghan national named, Hakamtullah Nurullah, 35, a suspect in the 50kg heroin seizure case from Jakhau, was staying in Delhi.

On October 7, a team of the Indian Coast Guard and ATS had seized a Pakistani boat, Al Sakar, with 50kg of heroin, worth Rs 350 crore.

The agencies arrested six persons, all residents of Karachi.

Investigating the case led the cops to Nurullah, who was caught at his house in Lajpatnagar.

A team of Surat city crime branch and Gujarat ATS brought him to the ATS headquarters on Friday.

During his primary questioning, Nurullah told police that he had concealed the heroin packets in a car, which was seized for the purpose of investigation.

Nurullah had come to India on a tourist visa in 2018 and had been staying in Delhi ever since.

ATS officers said he has been questioned about the involvement of other drug racketeers in the cartel and where the stock of heroin was to be delivered.

In the first week of October, ATS had seized the 50kg of heroin, allegedly sent by Pakistan-based drug racketeer Mohammad Kadar, who intended to use the Gujarat coast to land the drug amd further move it to Punjab and other parts of north India.
