Widespread anger and protests have erupted across Gujarat following the desecration of an idol at the sacred Gorakhnath Temple on Girnar mountain in Junagadh. The Gujarat government has issued strict directives for immediate action against the perpetrators.
CM Bhupendra Patel Directs Prompt Action
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has taken serious note of the incident. He personally spoke with Junagadh Collector Anil Ranavasiya and directed him to ensure a swift and thorough investigation. Officials in Gandhinagar confirmed that the state is monitoring the situation closely and has assured strict punishment for those involved.
UP CM Yogi Adityanath Seeks Detailed Report
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who is a prominent figure in the Nath sect, has also expressed deep concern. He has sought a detailed report on the incident and emphasized the need for immediate justice, urging authorities to identify and apprehend the culprits.
FIR Lodged, Investigation Handed Over to LCB
The incident has sparked outrage among devotees and religious leaders. A police complaint was filed by Mahant Yogi Somnathji Guru Rajnathji of the Gorakhnath Temple against four unidentified individuals.
Junagadh Superintendent of Police Subodh Odedra, along with senior officials, visited the site and launched a probe. The investigation has been handed over to the Local Crime Branch (LCB), which is currently analyzing CCTV footage and questioning potential suspects. As of now, no arrests have been made.
Temporary Idol Installed Amid Rituals
In response to the desecration, a temporary idol of Gorakhnathji was brought from an ashram in Kutch and installed at the temple. The installation was carried out in the presence of the district collector, SP, and local authorities, accompanied by Vedic rituals.
Officials stated that a formal pran-pratishtha ceremony will be conducted soon, which will include a yajna and other religious rites.
Public Outrage and Heightened Security
The act of vandalism has deeply hurt the sentiments of the Nath sect and the larger Hindu community. Devotees have demanded immediate justice and stricter security measures to protect religious sites.
In response, authorities have tightened security in and around the Girnar temple area to prevent any further incidents and maintain public order.
