Gandhinagar police on Tuesday arrested retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer S K Langa for alleged criminal misconduct as a public servant, corruption and causing financial loss worth crores of rupees to the Gujarat government.

The case relates to the time when the retired bureaucrat was posted as Gandhinagar district collector between April 2018 and September 2019.

Sources in Gandhinagar police said Langa was caught at a hotel in Abu Road and was being taken to Gandhinagar police headquarters late on Tuesday night.

A team led by investigating officer DySP Ami Patel of Gandhinagar has been probing this case.

The arrest came two months after an FIR was lodged on May 17 against Langa, then Chitnish to the collector and resident additional collector (RAC) of Gandhinagar, at Sector 7 police station in Gandhinagar based on a complaint filed by a district collectorate official.

Langa held office as Gandhinagar collector between April 2018 and September 2019.

Langa and the two others have been booked under Sections 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant), 168 (public servant unlawfully engaging in trade), 193 (false evidence), 196 (using evidence known to be false), 465 (forgery), 466 (forgery of record of public register), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document) and 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC as well as under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
