For the first time Onion loading has started through Kisan Rail from Vadodara Division. The first train with 288.11 tonnes of onions flagged off from Bharuch station to Malda town of West Bengal.
Divisional Railway Manager Amit Gupta informed that through Kisan Rail, Indian Railways is providing safe, fast and cheap transportation for agricultural products. Western Railway is getting continuous success due to the active efforts of Business Development Unit formed in Vadodara Division.
Onion was being sent normally by road and Vadodara division has got success in diverting this traffic from road to rail. The first onion Kisan train from the division was run from Bharuch to Malda town in which 288. 11 tonnes of onion has been transported in 20 general coaches.
It is noteworthy that subsidy is provided in fare from railways on transportation from Kisan Rail. The division received revenue of 11 lakhs from this rake. So far 9 Kisan trains have been operated from Vadodara division.
