Kisan Rail is a unique initiative undertaken by Indian Railways to help the help the farmers to transport their perishable agricultural products to new markets and also for its economical and fast transportation to the inter-state markets.
Taking forward this initiative, Western Railway's Vadodara Division has also now commenced the operation of Kisan Rail for the benefit of the local farmers, with the first Kisan Rail run from Vadodara to Adarsh Nagar in Delhi.
Kisan Rail helps in transporting agricultural produce, especially perishable commodities at economical rates and assist farmers in getting the right price for their produce. In this direction, Western Railway' Vadodara Division ran its first Kisan Rail loaded with consignment of approx. 194 tonnes of bananas in 20 coaches, from Vadodara to Delhi. This is in addition to the Kisan Rail run by Mumbai & Ratlam Divisions of Western Railway, transporting commodities such as chickoos, onions & potatoes.
During the period from 1st April to 15th June, 2021, Western Railway has run 63 Kisan Rails carrying a load of more than 14200 tonnes. Another major development, a mini rake of goods train (21 wagons) loaded with 1323 tonnes of Gram (Chana) has been dispatched from Gondal station to Delhi on 16th June, 2021. It's a new destination for the transportation of Gram from the region.
