A massive fire broke out late at night in a scrap godown adjacent to National Highway 48 near Ankleshwar.
The fire quickly spread to nearby godowns, creating a critical situation. Firefighters battled the flames for hours and successfully brought the fire under control with the help of five fire tenders.
Fire Erupts, Spreads to Nearby Godowns
The fire, which started in a scrap godown, escalated rapidly, sending flames and thick smoke into the sky, visible from a great distance. The intensity of the fire caused panic in the area. Upon receiving the alert, three fire tenders from Ankleshwar DPMC rushed to the site and attempted to contain the blaze.
However, due to the highly flammable materials stored in the godown, the fire quickly spread to neighboring storage facilities, worsening the situation.
Firefighters Struggle, Police Intervention Required
With the fire spreading uncontrollably, additional fire tenders from the Notified Area Authority were deployed. Firefighters worked tirelessly and managed to extinguish the flames late at night. However, tensions rose as managers of nearby godowns clashed with the fire personnel, leading to police intervention to restore order.
Safety Violations Under Scrutiny
Preliminary investigations revealed that the godown where the fire originated did not possess a Fire NOC or fire safety equipment. Authorities suspect that managers of scrap godowns near NH 48 may be illegally storing chemical waste, which could have contributed to the fire’s intensity. The police and relevant authorities have initiated an inquiry into the incident and are expected to issue notices to those found violating safety regulations.
The incident highlights the urgent need for stricter fire safety enforcement in industrial storage facilities to prevent such hazardous occurrences in the future.
