In a breakthrough operation, the Ahmedabad Rural Local Crime Branch (LCB) has solved a major theft case involving the burglary of 11 rare and exotic parrots including endangered species from a bird shop in Vejalpur, recovering stolen wildlife and property worth ₹16.99 lakh.
One accused, identified as Bishal Yadav, has been arrested in connection with the case, while further investigation is ongoing to trace his accomplices.
The LCB launched a focused investigation into the burglary reported on the night of July 7-8, 2025.
The complainant, Mohammad Aqib Sheikh, who operates a pet shop dealing in exotic birds and animals, reported that 11 highly valuable parrots were stolen from his premises in Vejalpur, Ahmedabad.
The stolen birds included—
- 3 Blue Gold Macaws (₹3,00,000)
- 1 Green Wing Macaw (₹3,20,000)
- 1 Moluccan Cockatoo (White) (₹3,15,000)
- 1 Sulphur-crested Cockatoo (Galerita) (₹1,95,000)
- 1 Amarela Cockatoo (White)(₹1,10,000)
- 2 African Grey Parrots (₹98,000)
- 2 Eclectus Parrots (₹1,50,000)
Other items stolen included bird cages, two mobile phones, and a car used in the theft, bringing the total recovered property to ₹16.99 lakh.
Acting on a specific intelligence tip-off, the cops tracked down Bishal alias Vishal Yadav, who confessed during interrogation. According to the accused, he first came across the shop through Instagram reels, which showcased the rare birds. Tempted by their high market value, he surveyed the shop and later executed the theft with the help of an accomplice.
Bishal, originally from Gaura village of Bihar, and currently residing near Kidney Hospital in Nadiad, has a criminal history across Bharuch, Nadiad, and Padra, involving in goat theft.
Yadav told the police that he needed money to get married during Diwali, so hatched a plan to steal the birds.
The accused has been charged under Sections of BNS registered at Vejalpur Police Station, and further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend other individuals involved.
Officials praised the swift and coordinated effort of the LCB in recovering endangered wildlife and bringing the accused to justice. The rescued birds are currently being cared for under the supervision of wildlife officials.
