Electric vehicle sales go up by 200% this year in Gujarat

The sale of electric vehicles (EVs) in the state has increased by 200% till July this year as compared to the past year.

The sale of electric vehicles was 9,917 from January to December 2021 but in the first six months of 2022, it crossed 30,000 vehicles.

In Ahmedabad city 5,458 electric vehicles were sold this year which was just 429 between January and July last year.

Transport officials and dealers believe that one of the main reasons behind this rise is high petrol prices.

The petrol prices crossed the Rs 100-mark last year in October and simultaneously, the sale of e-vehicles in Gujarat increased from less than 400 to over 2,500 in December.

This year, the sale of electric vehicles in Gujarat touched 6,000 a month. A similar trend has been witnessed across the country. The sale of electric vehicles increased from 28,000 vehicles a month to over 70,000 a month across the country.
