The Election Commission on Saturday asked the Gujarat chief secretary and police chief to immediately furnish a compliance report regarding action taken on its directions in August to transfer officials who are either posted in their home district or have completed three years in a district.

The EC, in its letter sent to the Gujarat chief secretary on Saturday, noted that it had on August 1, 2022, issued the directions for transfer of the aforementioned set of officials and asked the chief secretary and DGP to submit a compliance report with details of action taken, by September 30. 

However, as no report was received, EC sent a reminder on October 19.

The EC has now directed that its the instructions dated August 1, 2022, be complied and reports sent immediately. Further, it asked the Gujarat chief secretary and DGP to explain the circumstances "as to why the compliance report was not furnished sofar even after lapse of stipulated time-limit despite issuing of a reminder in the matter".
