With large crowds expected to turn out for New Year celebrations, the Ahmedabad Police have issued a detailed traffic notification imposing restrictions and diversions across key arterial roads in the city from the evening of December 31 till the early hours of January 1.
The order, issued by Commissioner of Police G S Malik on December 26 under provisions of the Gujarat Police Act and Gujarat Motor Vehicles Rules, aims to ensure public safety, smooth traffic regulation and law and order during the festivities.
As per the notification, C G Road will be closed to all vehicular traffic from Stadium Circle to Panchvati from 6 pm on December 31 to 3 am on January 1.
Legal parking on both sides of CG Road will also be prohibited during this period, with complete vehicular movement barred on the stretch from 8 pm onwards.
Police have advised motorists to use alternative routes, including crossing C G Road via connecting roads near Samatheshwar Mahadev–Bodyline junction and routes from Mithakhali Circle through Girish Cold Drinks junction to St Xavier’s College Road, or from Navrangpura bus stand via Swastik crossroads to Commerce Six Roads.
Similarly, Sindhu Bhavan Road will remain closed on both carriageways from Jajarmaan crossroads to Taj Skyline crossroads between 8 pm on December 31 and 3 am on January 1.
Vehicles will be diverted via Jajarmaan crossroads to Umiya Traders T towards Taj Skyline, and through the Ambli overbridge towards Shilaj Circle.
The police have also imposed restrictions on the movement of heavy and medium goods vehicles across the city, while passenger vehicle movement will be regulated during the night.
On the Sarkhej–Gandhinagar (SG) Highway, all vehicles — except permitted passenger vehicles — will be barred during the restricted hours, and drivers have been directed to use the Sardar Patel Ring Road instead.
Parking will be prohibited on SG Road and its service lanes from Pakwan crossroads to Sanand Chowkdi, and on the stretch from Nehrunagar Circle to Shivranjani and ISKCON crossroads during the restriction period.
Emergency vehicles, including ambulances, fire brigade vehicles and government vehicles on duty, have been exempted from the restrictions.
Police have warned that violations of the notification will invite action under Section of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section of the Gujarat Police Act. All officers from the rank of joint or additional commissioner down to constables have been authorised to take legal action against violators.
The city police have urged citizens to plan their travel in advance, follow traffic advisories and cooperate with enforcement personnel to ensure a safe and orderly New Year celebration.
