In yet another crackdown on liquor parties in the Ahmedabad’s upscale areas, the Bopal police late on Friday night raided a farmhouse in Shilaj where a group of people were allegedly consuming alcohol and hookah.
The police detained over 15 individuals, including nine men and six women, and seized liquor bottles, hookah equipment, and other materials from the spot.
According to officials, the party was being held without permission, and the farmhouse premises had been rented for the gathering.
Police sources said that among those detained were several non-resident Indians (NRIs), while the organisers are being questioned to determine who granted permission for the event and how liquor was procured despite prohibition laws in Gujarat.
Preliminary information suggests that around 20 individuals were present at the party, including foreigners and NRIs. Police have begun tracing the source of the liquor and are verifying whether the farmhouse owners were aware of the event’s nature.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the involvement of the organisers and suppliers; more details are awaited.
