The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has closed the Bhadra area for hawkers and street vendors, issuing a public notice through banners placed across the premises.
The move comes as part of the civic body’s restructuring and regulation efforts in the busy heritage zone.
To accommodate the registered hawkers and patharna vendors, AMC has allocated two alternative spaces–
Plot A: The open ground located behind the Nauroji Library near Pankore Naka
Plot B: The open space at Dhalgarwad
However, despite the allocation, around 844 registered vendors have refused to shift to these sites and are openly protesting the closure of Bhadra for vending activities.
Vendors claim that the new locations lack footfall and business viability, making it difficult for them to sustain their livelihood.
AMC officials have clarified that the alternative arrangements are specifically made for the registered vendors, and no hawker will be allowed to sit or operate in the Bhadra area anymore. Enforcement teams have been instructed to ensure strict compliance.
With vendors resisting relocation and the civic body firm on its decision, the standoff over the Bhadra vending space continues to intensify.
