Despite this, the civic body has now decided to spend an additional Rs 12.9 crore on micro-resurfacing of roads.

Sources in AMC said that the civic body has recently approved three tenders of micro-resurfacing of roads with a combined expenditure of Rs 12.9 crore.

Earlier, in a one-year period starting September 2022, the AMC approved 15 tenders of road resurfacing which amounted to Rs 928 crore in total.

Earlier, six months ago, the civic body had approved a tender amounting to Rs 20 crore for white topping of a road stretch in Gurukul and adjacent areas.

More recently, in the past two months, the civic body approved two tenders of white topping of various road stretches in the city which amounted to Rs 160 crore.

From 2020 to 2023, the civic body had spent Rs 971.27 crore to repair 1,055 road stretches totalling to a length of 548.23km.

The three-year guarantee periods of these resurfaced roads is still valid, but the civic body keeps spending more on road repairs.

Sources in the corporation said that after approving Rs 12.9 crore for micro-resurfacing of roads in various areas of the city, the AMC is prepared to approve two more tenders amounting to Rs 5 crore approximately in its next standing committee meeting.

Sources said that the tenders of micro-resurfacing of roads, a preventive road repair work, were approved after the monsoon season got over and even though the AMC’s financial budget had no provisions for micro-resurfacing, the tenders were approved.
