Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has increased the registration charge of ₹500 per pet dog. Previously, the registration charge was set at ₹200 per dog.
As of May 31, a total of 15,504 pet dogs have been registered by 13,677 owners in the city.
According to the National Action Plan and the guidelines of the Rabies-Free Ahmedabad City initiative, pet dog registration was made mandatory in the city starting January this year.
Until May 31, owners registering their pet dogs were required to pay a charge of ₹200 per dog.
From June 1 to June 30, it has been made compulsory for pet dog owners to pay ₹500 per dog for registration.
For registration, owners must upload a photo of the pet dog, a photo of the place where the dog is kept, a vaccination card issued by a registered veterinary doctor, and supporting documents including the applicant’s Aadhaar card, property tax receipt, and electricity bill.
The entire registration process must be completed online through the official website of the Municipal Corporation.
AMC decided to tighten the pet policies in the city after a tragic dog attack in Ahmedabad’s Hathijan that claimed the life of an infant.
The dog owners will now be mandated to conduct regular medical checkups for their pets every three months and ensure that dogs are properly vaccinated.
The new policy will also set guidelines for the minimum space that must be allotted to pet dogs, a move aimed at improving the quality of life for the animals and ensuring public safety. Detailed norms regarding the required space and living conditions will be issued by the AMC.
