The city on Monday was the hottest in the state as it recorded a maximum temperature of 42.1°C.

Amreli, at 42°C was the second hottest, followed by Surendranagar at 41.8°C.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, the temperatures are likely to remain high for the next five days in the city - the maximum temperature is likely to remain around 44°C on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

'No large change in maximum temperatures during next 24 hours, thereafter rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius during subsequent 4 days very likely,' mentioned the IMD forecast.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Porbandar, Gir Somnath, Junagadh, Kutch, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, and Ahmedabad for the next four days.

EMRI 108 officials said that Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat continue to record high number of heat-related emergencies. Ahmedabad, on average, has been recording 120 to 150 emergencies daily.
