In a significant step towards addressing global climate and environmental challenges, Ahmedabad University launched its Climate Institute on Monday.
The institute is developing India’s first comprehensive Climate, Energy, and Environmental education programme aimed at preparing future leaders to tackle global climate issues.
It will focus on research, education, and impact-oriented projects.
The institute will operate under three key verticals: Energy and Climate Change, Cities and Settlements and Air and Water -- all crucial areas in the fight against climate change.
The Climate Institute plans to offer undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate educational programmes.
The curriculum is being developed in collaboration with the university’s schools and its national and international partners.
Among the international collaborators are renowned institutions such as the University of Chicago, the London School of Economics, and Warwick University.
Officials from Ahmedabad University have indicated that the institute’s primary objective is to build a comprehensive climate, energy, and environmental education programme.
The university also has plans to introduce a Major in Climate Change and Sustainability at the undergraduate level, with a target launch date in the 2025-26 academic year.
The curriculum will cover a wide range of topics aimed at equipping students with knowledge and skills to tackle global climate challenges effectively.
