Applicants seeking passports are facing a waiting period of 12 days at the Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Ahmedabad, while the wait stretches to 18 days in Surat.
At RPO Ahmedabad, the tatkal waiting period has increased over the past two years.
It stood at two days in 2023, rose to four days in 2024, and has further increased to five days in 2025.
For normal passport applications, the waiting period was 20 days in 2023, which reduced to 14 days in 2024.
In Surat, the waiting period for normal passports remained at 19 days in both 2023 and 2024, and has marginally reduced to 18 days in 2025.
However, the tatkal waiting period has increased from one day earlier to five days now.
Across Gujarat, 13 passport applications currently have police verification pending for more than one month. In comparison, Maharashtra has a significantly higher backlog, with around 1.37 lakh passport applications pending police verification for over a month.
