The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Ahmedabad Rural on Thursday seized more than 220 kg of suspected adulterated ghee worth over ₹1.56 lakh during a raid on an industrial unit in the Kanbha police station limits.
Police said the information pointed to a godown in shed-1 of Vibrant Mega Industrial Park near Vaheral village, where the operator of ‘Maa Arbuda Product’ was allegedly selling adulterated ghee.
A joint team comprising PSI I K Sheikh, SOG personnel and officials from the Food and Drugs Department, Ahmedabad-2, including officer P H Solanki, raided the premises.
The team recovered 223.2 kg of ghee suspected to be adulterated, valued at ₹1.56 lakh. Food and Drugs officials collected samples for laboratory testing and have initiated further action.
Police identified the operator as Jigar Umeshbhai Prajapati, a resident of Luhar Chakla in Dahegam, Ahmedabad district.
Officials added that during the operation a separate 543 kg stock of ghee, valued at ₹3.43 lakh, found unfit for consumption was destroyed on the spot.
Further investigation is under way, police said, to determine the extent of the alleged adulteration and any wider network involved.
