Ahmedabad LCB arrests inter-state vehicle theft gang, recovers 10 stolen two-wheelers worth ₹5 lakh

The Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Ahmedabad City’s Zone-7 has arrested two men allegedly involved in an inter-state vehicle theft racket and recovered 10 stolen two-wheelers valued at ₹5.2 lakh, police said on Monday.

The arrests have led to the detection of 10 previously undetected cases of vehicle theft across Gujarat and Maharashtra.

The officials were conducting patrols and checks to crack down on property-related crimes. Based on specific intelligence, the LCB team apprehended two suspects from the Vejalpur area.

The arrested accused have been identified as Sajid alias Bhuro Sheta (35), a driver by occupation and a resident of Rajkot who was currently staying in Mumbai, and Ahmed Qureshi (26), a rickshaw driver from Rajkot.

Police said the duo was involved in stealing two-wheelers from multiple locations, including Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Morbi, and police station limits of Vinobabhave Nagar and Deonar in Mumbai.

During the operation, the police recovered 10 stolen vehicles, including scooters and motorcycles of various makes, with a combined value of ₹5.2 lakh.

These recoveries helped police solve 10 pending cases of vehicle theft registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023,across different police stations in Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Police records indicate that Sajid alias Bhuro is a habitual offender with a long criminal history, with multiple cases of vehicle theft registered against him in Rajkot city over the past decade, as well as preventive action under the PASA Act.

Officials said further investigation is underway to identify additional links in the inter-state theft network and to recover more stolen property. The accused have been remanded to police custody for further questioning.
