After a relatively cool March and April, the heat reclaimed the summer with a bang the maximum temperature in Ahmedabad on Tuesday was 42. 9°C, the highest in Gujarat. Seven cities in the state recorded maximum temperatures of 42°C or higher.

The India meteorological department (IMD) issued an orange alert for the heat from May 10 to 14 for Ahmedabad, with the maximum temperature likely to touch 44 degrees.

The temperature on Tuesday in the city was 1. 5 degrees higher than normal, while the minimum of 27°C was 0. 7 degrees higher than normal.

On Wednesday, the city could witness a maximum temperature of 44°C, according to the IMD forecast.

Met officials said while the temperatures are not unusual, their timing has caused the population to feel the heat.
