The Ahmedabad City Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested three men wanted in connection with a triple murder in Rajasthan’s Ajmer last month.
According to officials, the case was registered at Ramganj police station in Ajmer under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
Investigators said the incident stemmed from a violent altercation within the Qureshi community over the pricing of chicken, which was being debated in a WhatsApp group.
On July 15, a violent clash broke out between two groups of the Muslim community in Khanpura, under the jurisdiction of Ramganj police station.
The altercation reportedly began at Pakeeza Meat Shop over an old rivalry and quickly escalated, with both sides resorting to sharp-edged weapons and other arms.
In the attack, ten people were injured and three men – identified as Imran, Shahnawaz and Gulam Qureshi– succumbed to their injuries while being rushed to the hospital.
Several others, including Salman, Shahrukh and Irfan, sustained serious wounds. All injured were admitted to Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Hospital in Ajmer, where the condition of at least two remains critical.
Following the incident, police rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.
The bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem, and a case was registered against multiple accused.
In the wake of heightened tensions, additional police deployment was ordered in the area, and officials appealed to residents to maintain peace. Preliminary investigations indicated that the killings were rooted in an old enmity between the rival groups.
In the aftermath of the killings, several suspects fled Ajmer to evade arrest.
Acting on intelligence inputs that some had taken shelter in Ahmedabad, the Crime Branch mounted surveillance and detained three of the wanted men.
Those arrested have been identified as Salman Abdulali Qureshi (29), Allarkha Abdulali Qureshi (25), and Avesh Abdulali Qureshi (20), all residents of Shauryawan Mohalla in Diggi Bazar, Ajmer. The trio were later handed over to Ramganj police for further investigation and legal proceedings.
