The Ahmedabad District and Sessions Court has denied bail to Milind Patel, the marketing executive accused of luring villagers into unnecessary medical procedures at Khyati Multispeciality Hospital under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) scheme.
Patel allegedly organized a free medical camp in Borisana village in Mehsana district, on November 10, 2024, on behalf of the hospital.
Authorities claim he targeted villagers, convincing them to seek treatment at Khyati Hospital by fabricating serious health issues and promising free healthcare via Ayushman cards issued in their names.
Judge Advait Vyas, in rejecting the bail plea, noted applicant's role as marketing head and his involvement in hospital administration.
A chargesheet has already been filed in the case.
Prosecution counsel argued that applicant misled villagers by diagnosing fake heart conditions, urging them to undergo angiography and stent placements at the hospital’s cath lab.
Victims were reportedly threatened with death if they refused the procedures, leading several to agree to the invasive treatments.
Defense lawyer countered that applicant-accused had only organised the camp and did not advise treatments.
Dr Minal Maheshwari provided medical recommendations. No evidence from the investigation links the applicant to advising angiography, the lawyer submitted.
The case stems from a wider probe by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch into a PMJAY fraud network at Khyati Hospital, triggered by two patient deaths in 2024. Several accused have been arrested as the investigation expands.
