Ahmedabad court cancels bail of folk artist Devayat Khavad in cheating case

The Ahmedabad Rural Court has cancelled the conditional bail granted earlier to noted Gujarati folk artist and dayro performer Devayat Khavad, in connection with a cheating case registered at Changodar police station.

The court has directed Khavad to surrender within 30 days.

A complaint was filed by Bhagwatsinh Chauhan on February 20 this year alleging that Khavad had accepted ₹8 lakh to perform at an event organised on the death anniversary of the complainant’s father but failed to appear for the programme.

The complainant also alleged that Khavad threatened him over the phone after the incident.

Following this, Khavad was granted bail by the Ahmedabad Rural Court under conditions that he should not engage in any criminal activity and should not influence witnesses or tamper with evidence.

However, police investigations revealed that during his bail period, Khavad and his associates allegedly attacked the complainant Dhruvraj Ramchandrasinh Chauhan in Talala, leading to an FIR against Khavad.

Based on these developments and the violation of bail conditions, the court has now revoked Khavad’s bail.

Khavad had also filed a counter-complaint claiming an attack by the complainant’s driver
