Security personnel at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport were jolted on Sunday after an email threatening to blow up buildings at the facility was found to be a hoax.
Police have registered a case of criminal intimidation and are tracing the sender.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the airport’s official email account and other internal addresses received a threatening email at 6.06 am on Sunday.
The email, laced with violent rhetoric, claimed that bombs had been planted around the airport’s buildings and warned that the authorities had “24 hours to react or face the blood pool”.
The email further described the purported sender as the “leader of a terrorist group also known as terrorisers 111”, and included disturbing self-styled descriptions such as “I am the child of evil” and “I am the meaning of hatred”.
Ravikant Jat Bhardwaj, a senior in-line department employee at the privately managed Adani Airport, stated in his complaint that he was on duty during the early morning shift when he was later alerted about the email by the Adani Security Manager.
After reviewing the contents and circumstances of the message, the committee concluded that the email constituted a “non-specific bomb threat”. As per protocol, Bhardwaj lodged a police complaint, attaching the original email from the airport account.
Airport police have registered an offence under Section BNS (criminal intimidation) and relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act, naming the unknown email sender as the accused.
“The email appears to have been sent from a fake or untraceable account. We are working with cyber experts to identify the origin of the message,” a senior police officer said.
Officials emphasised that no explosives were found and airport operations remained unaffected. The incident has nevertheless prompted a review of emergency response protocols at the airport, which remains under enhanced security watch while the cyber investigation continues.
