As many as 56 candidates who were recently appointed as Assistant Junior Clerks in Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) have refused to join duty, even after receiving appointment letters.
According to AMC officials, a total of 697 candidates were offered probationary appointments in May 2025 with a fixed monthly salary of ₹26,000.
However, 56 recruits either declined the offer or failed to report for duty, citing reasons such as securing jobs elsewhere, preparing for other competitive exams, or personal constraints.
The civic body had conducted a written examination on November 24, 2024, attracting thousands of applicants from Ahmedabad and across Gujarat.
Appointment letters were handed out on May 18, 2025 in the presence of the Union Home Minister. Despite repeated reminders including notices sent on July 1, July 22, and August 19, the selected candidates remained absent.
Selection for other government posts such as Cashier in the Gujarat High Court, State Finance Department, Teaching Assistant, or Forest Department Beat Guard.
Plans to appear for upcoming competitive examinations.
Personal reasons or a lack of interest in the junior clerk role.
Following these refusals, the municipal commissioner has ordered the cancellation of their appointments and the removal of their names from the official selection list.
