The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) may have a problem of plenty on hand for the recruitment of 641 employees. By Tuesday evening, 43,900 persons had applied for various posts online.
Such is the rush that at times it becomes difficult to access the VMC website during peak traffic hours on the website. The number of hits being received on the website has left even the officials of the civic body stunned.
The biggest rush is for the post of junior clerks where the number of vacancies is the highest. The vacancies that VMC plans to fill include four ward officers, seven revenue officers, 552 junior clerks, 10 sub-sanitary inspectors and 68 multi-purpose workers. Aspirants can apply for the posts till February 28.
VMC had several positions at various levels vacant for quite some time now. Also, it is to increase the number of ward offices to 19 and will need more staff. Those selected for the posts will be appointed for a fixed salary on probation for three years.
Sources said that given the rush and difficulties being faced by some in applying online, the VMC may even consider extending the deadline for applications. Its website also hangs at times during peak traffic hours.
