In Ahmedabad, a total of 32 municipal board-run schools are still operating in tin-sheet (makeshift) structures across different ward areas.
The state government has approved a grant to demolish these schools and construct new buildings in their place.
The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will soon invite tenders for the construction of these new schools.
These schools fall under the city’s six zones, North, Central, East, South, South-West, and West. Altogether, these 32 schools accommodate 9,753 students in 179 classrooms under unsafe tin-sheet roofs.
Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani confirmed that six of these schools are being run in rented premises.
Approval has already been granted by the state government to demolish all such schools and build new ones. After the tendering process, construction will begin in phases.
