Schools in Ahmedabad city are likely to be divided into East and West DEO zones as the state education is planning to assign two district education officers for them to iron out administrative issues.
Schools in the western part of the city will fall under the jurisdiction of Ahmedabad West DEO and those in the east, under the jurisdiction of Ahmedabad East DEO.
As of now, there is only one DEO for Ahmedabad city and another for Ahmedabad rural. Following this decision, some schools from Ahmedabad’s rural areas and some from Gandhinagar will also be part of these two jurisdictions.
Sources said the primary sections of some schools fall under the jurisdiction of Ahmedabad city DEO, while secondary and higher secondary sections fall under the Ahmedabad rural DEO’s jurisdiction, which leads to confusion and inconvenience to schools and parents, leading to administrative problems.
Sources said that one more DEOs may be appointed in the future as the area under the jurisdiction of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is continuously expanding and the number of schools is also increasing.
The offices will have new staff members including Class-1 and Class-2 officers and clerks.
