Gujarat currently has only 13 active cases of Covid-19, but health officials are urging caution as a new sub-variant, JN.1, has been detected. While there’s no need to panic, the state is taking proactive measures to ensure preparedness.

Low Numbers, High Alert! Despite the low number of active cases, Health Minister of gujarat Rushikesh Patel emphasized the importance of vigilance. He assured that the new variant is less virulent compared to previous strains, but urged everyone to remain alert.

Notably, all 13 active cases are currently under home isolation and none require hospitalizations

To assess their readiness for any potential surge in cases, the Gujarat government conducted a massive mock drill across 5,700 hospitals, both government and private. This exercise was particularly timely given the emergence of JN.1.

Hospitals across the state are ramping up their preparedness. Ahmedabad’s SVP Hospital has allocated an 80-bed isolation ward, with 20 ICU beds dedicated to Covid-19 patients. Similarly, Vadodara’s SSG Hospital has established a 26-bed isolation ward and ensured adequate oxygen supplies.

Amid concerns about JN.1, the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit is expected to proceed as planned. Minister Patel reassured that the variant’s low virulence poses no significant threat to the event.
