A list of the top global researchers was released by journal publisher Elsevier and 117 researchers from Gujarat have made it to the list.

This number has increased slightly from the last year, experts say, with new institutions and disciplines being added.

The list, accessed from the Elsevier site, includes researchers from institutes such as SV National Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar, Nirma University, Ahmedabad University, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Central Salt And Marine Chemicals Research Institute, Central University of Gujarat, Gujarat University, MS University, Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Physical Research Laboratory, Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar and the National Forensic Sciences University to name a few.

Many senior researchers including Prof Sudhir Jain, Anil Gupta, Dileep Mavalankar, Y K Agarwal and Harish Padh have found mention on the list with their contribution to research.

Separate data are shown for career-long and, separately, for single recent year impact. Metrics with and without self-citations and ratio of citations to citing papers are given.

Scientists are classified into 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields according to the standard Science-Metrix classification,’ the publishers said to explain the scope of the rankings.

The selection is based on the top 1 lakh scientists by c-score or a percentile rank of 2% or higher in the sub-field.
