At least 11 pilgrims were injured after coming in contact with a live wire during a padyatra (foot march) for a religious event in Gota area of Ahmedabad on Thursday evening, police said.

The pilgrims, including nine women and two men, were participating in the yatra when a long flag pole touched a live electric wire running overhead, said officers.

A spokesperson of the GVK-EMRI ambulance service on Thursday said that the pilgrims had been rushed to GMERS Sola Civil Hospital.

A total of 11 patients were admitted to the casualty ward of the hospital around 8 pm, confirmed Superintendent Dr Deepika Singhal Saxena. She said that all the patients were in a stable condition and would be kept overnight for observation.

The station officer at Sola HC police station confirmed the incident and said a team was on its way to investigate the case.
