Gujarat makes cow slaughter non-bailable offence

Cow slaughterwill now attract life imprisonment in Gujarat after the state Assembly amended the cow protection law on Friday.

With this amendment, Cow slaughter has also been made a non-bailable offence.

Further, persons found to be transporting beef and other related crimes will be penalised with a Rs 1,00,000 to Rs 5,00,000 fine.

Earlier, under the Gujarat Animal Preservation (Amendment) Act, 2011, those found guilty of slaughtering a cow or transporting beef were awarded seven-year sentences and a Rs 50,000-fine.
