Actor Will Smith will star as an Iraq war veteran in the upcoming film Sugar Bandits, based on the book Devils in Exile, by Chuck Hogan.
The plot revolves around how the war vet joins an elite squad to bust the drug trade in the underbelly of Boston.
While Smith won't lead the project, he will co-star in it, reported Deadline.
Oscar-winner Smith is also attached to produce the film along with Jon Mone for Westbrook Studios with Ryan Shimazaki overseeing.
Smith was last seen in Emancipation directed by Antoine Fuqua. He will also be seen in a fourth Bad Boys film.
The movie is being produced by Stuart Ford for AGC Studios and co-produced by Richard Abate for 3 Arts Entertainment.
The budget for the film is expected to be $80 million.
