The development comes shortly after fellow actor Vincy Aloshious accused Chacko of misbehaving with her under the influence of drugs — a complaint she has now withdrawn, citing breach of trust.
According to reports, the Kochi police had been investigating a suspected drug racket and had zeroed in on a hotel where Shine Tom Chacko was present.
During the narcotics raid, the actor was seen attempting to escape the premises, though no drugs were found in his possession at the time. However, authorities decided to proceed with an enquiry, given the circumstances.
On Saturday, the Kochi police summoned Chacko for questioning. Following an interrogation that lasted over four hours, the actor was arrested under Sections 27 (consumption of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances) and 29 (abetment and criminal conspiracy) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He was later granted bail on the same day.
This case has garnered significant attention, especially in light of the recent allegations made by actress Vincy Aloshious.
The Rekha actress had earlier accused Shine Tom Chacko of inappropriate behaviour on the sets of a project they were shooting, claiming he was under the influence of drugs. However, Vincy has now officially withdrawn her complaint.
In a statement, Vincy said she felt let down by the organizations that assured her anonymity during the course of the investigation.
According to her, the leak of sensitive information to the media compromised her and Chacko’s identity, leading her to believe that her trust had been broken. As a result, she decided to step back from the complaint.
While Shine Tom Chacko has not issued a public statement yet, the incident has reignited conversations around drug use and misconduct in the Malayalam film industry.
With the NDPS case now active, the authorities are expected to continue their probe, and further developments are awaited.
