Netflix's most-watched series Squid Game is no longer merely a fictitious television show.

The streaming giant has announced that it is looking for contestants for a reality TV programme based on the series.

However, the competition series titled Squid Game: The Challenge will not be a life or death situation, as shown in the South Korean dystopian drama.

Instead, 456 recruits from all around the world will compete in games where "the worst fate is going home empty-handed" and missing out on a prize pool of $4.56 million (35.6 crores).

Netflix claims this to be the biggest prize ever given in the history of television reality shows.

As they compete through a series of games inspired by the original show - plus surprising new additions - their strategies, alliances, and character will be put to the test while competitors are eliminated around them, the streamer said in a release.

When it premiered in September 2021, Squid Game became Netflix's most-watched series, telling the story of cash-strapped participants who recreate childhood games for a chance to win life-changing sums of money.

According to Netflix, the 10-episode reality show will have games inspired by the series and new elements.

The reality show will be filmed in the United Kingdom, and only English speakers are presently being cast.

Those interested in applying can go to SquidGameCasting.com as the reality show is searching for English-language speakers from any part of the world.

The 10-episode competition series is a co-production between Studio Lambert (The Circle) and The Garden (24 Hours in A&E), part of ITV Studios, and it will be filmed in the UK.

Stephen Lambert, Tim Harcourt, and Toni Ireland from Studio Lambert and John Hay, Nicola Hill, and Nicola Brown from The Garden will serve as executive producers.
