Mammootty, the Malayalam celebrity, has said that he has tested positive for Covid-19.

"Despite taking all the necessary precautions I tested Covid positive yesterday. Besides a light fever I am otherwise fine. I am self isolating at home as per the directions of the concerned authorities. I wish for all of you to stay safe. Mask up at all times and take care," he tweeted. As soon as he shared the post, his fans flooded the comment section with 'get well soon' messages.

"We're praying for your speedy recovery and good health. Take care," a tweet read, while another Twitter user prayed that the actor must "comeback with full strength soon."

The Covid graph for India continues to show a rising trend. Today, 2.71 lakh instances were registered across the country. In the last 24 hours, 314 deaths tied to the virus have been documented. The number of active cases has increased to 4.18 percent of all infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has dropped to 94.51 percent. According to data from the Health Ministry, which was updated this morning, the active Covid-19 caseload increased by 1,32,557 cases in just 24 hours. The daily positivity rate increased slightly from 16.66 to 16.28 percent, while the weekly positivity rate remained same at 13.69 percent. Meanwhile, the European Commission has prolonged the ban on physical rallies until the end of the year.

Meanwhile, Mammootty is scheduled to star in a Netflix anthology that will reportedly feature filmmakers such as Lijo Jose Pellisery, Priyadarshan, Jayaraj, Shyamaprasad, Santosh Sivan, and Mahesh Narayanan. The video-on-demand behemoth has yet to make a formal statement. The actor surprised his fans earlier this month with the first look of CBI 5, in which Mammootty reprises his role as Sethurama Iyer.
