Actor Johnny Wactor, best known for his role in the long-running US soap opera 'General Hospital' was fatally shot in Los Angeles, his family said on Sunday.

The 37-year-old was shot dead when he interrupted thieves stealing the catalytic converter from his car, they added.

Wactor portrayed Brando Corbin on the ABC soap opera 'General Hospital' from 2020 to 2022. He also appeared in a variety of films and TV series, including 'Station 19', 'NCIS', 'Westworld' and the video game 'Call of Duty: Vanguard'.

It was around 3 am on Saturday that Johnny Wactor engaged three men who were trying to steal from his car in downtown LA, the Los Angeles Police Department was quoted as saying by news agency.

Johnny Wactor was chilling at a rooftop bar with a colleague after a day's work when he noticed movement by his car.

Initially, he thought the vehicle was being towed, and was gunned down by a masked man as he approached him, his mother Scarlett Wactor said.

The three suspects drove away from the scene soon after the shooting while Wactor was rushed to a hospital. However, his life couldn't be saved.
