Apple TV+ has announced that it is coming out with a documentary series on the life and murder of iconic musician John Lennon. The three-part series takes a close look at the 1980 murder of the Beatles front-man. The documentary titled John Lennon: Murder Without A Trial, will be narrated by Hollywood star Kiefer Sutherland.

The docu-series will feature eyewitnesses interviews and previously unseen pictures of the crime scene. The series will also follow the investigation and conviction of Lennon's killer Mark David Chapman. There will also be interviews with Lennon's closest friends. Lennon was shot outside his home in New York by Chapman, a troubled fan. Chapman pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. He remains incarcerated at Green Haven Correctional Facility in New York.

Reportedly, the production was granted extensive Freedom of Information Act requests from the New York City Police Department, the Board of Parole and the District Attorney’s office to gain access to the interviews. The series, reportedly, also features interviews with Chapman's defence lawyers, psychiatrists and prosecutors. The series is directed by Nick Holt and Rob Coldstream and is being produced by 72 films.

Chapman's story was dramatized in 2005 as a film titled Chapter 27. It featured Jared Leto. Also on Thursday, a track recorded by Lennon before his death was completed with help of AI by his bandmates Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. It was released as the Beatles final new song.

The release date of the docu-series hasn't been announced.
