A fire erupted at the Chuna Bhatti slum area of Delhi’s Kirti Nagar locality late on Thursday. The fire service said it had received information about the incident around 11.20pm on Thursday. No casualties have been reported in the incident so far.
“Around 11:20pm in the night, we got the information that a fire broke out in the Chuna Bhatti slum at Kirti Nagar. Around 45 vehicles are engaged in the firefighting operation. There are no reports of any casualty till now. Fire is under control,” Rajesh Panwar, Chief Fire Officer, Delhi Fire Service, told sources.
According to reports, dozens of slums were gutted in the fire. Kirti Nagar is known for its furniture industry and reports suggest that the fire may have spread after spreading to wood in the area. Due to the narrow lanes, firefighters took about four hours to bring the blaze under control. In January 2019, nearly 100 shanties were gutted in Kirti Nagar after a fire broke out at a furniture market.
