The air quality of the national capital improved from ‘very poor’ to ‘poor’ on Wednesday as the overall air quality index (AQI) docked at 242. The dip in pollution was recorded as there was a fall in both PM10 and PM2.5 pollutants.
According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), PM10 pollutants were recorded at 223 and PM2.5 pollutants were recorded at 103.
As per SAFAR, PM10 pollutants on Thursday are expected to fall down to 210 and PM2.5 pollutants are expected to reduce to 103. As per the forecast, PM10 pollutants will fall down to 201 during the week while PM2.5 pollutants will rise up to 91.
SAFAR’s forecast on Wednesday stated, “Surface winds are low and forecasted to pick up during the day. A similar ventilation index is forecasted for the next two days. AQI is likely to stay at the Poor to the lower end of the Very Poor category on 24th to 25th Feb. An increase in wind speed and boundary layer height is forecasted on 26th and 27th Feb. This is likely to influence AQI positively leading to its further improvement.”
In Lodhi Road, PM10 pollutants were recorded at 146 and PM2.5 pollutants were recorded at 193. Meanwhile, in Mathura Road, PM10 pollutants were recorded at 224, which falls under the ‘poor’ category and PM2.5 pollutants were recorded at 262, which falls under the ‘poor’ category.
