1000 personnel attend online DRM programme

NCC cadets of Gujarat Directorate have continued their deployment for the last 30 days in support of civil administration towards its fight against Covid-19. More than 1000 cadets and support staff attended a two hour online Disaster Risk Management Programme on Covid-19 conducted by Gujarat Institute of Disaster Management. DDG, NCC Guj Dte also briefed the attendees on the tasks undertaken and risk involved to the cadets during the programme.

In the last 30 days, around 500-650 cadets, 61 ANOs and 79 Permanent Instructors have been deployed on daily basis at around 26 towns covering more than 20 districts of Gujarat. Cadets have undertaken variety of tasks including traffic and queue management, educating the people on usage of Aarogya Setu app, packaging and distribution of dry ration, cooking and serving of food to the poor and needy people. Cadets have also visited old age homes and helped elderly people as required.

Cadets who could not be deployed are involved in stitching handmade masks. Approx 5000 masks have been handed over to the civil administration of many districts. In addition, a large number of masks have also been distributed personally to the people who were not in possession of masks. Posters and placards were carried by the cadets during deployment and a large number of videos have been circulated in Gujarati, Hindi and English language in the social media to enhance the general public’s awareness on Covid-19.

The involvement of cadets has been highly appreciated at all levels. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has also commended the efforts of the cadets and support staff in their support towards Covid-19.
