Statues of martyrs Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru have been placed at the Commerce Unit at Vadodara Maharaja Sayajirao University. A grant of Rs 1,95,000 by the state government and Rs 1,20,000 from the Faculty of Commerce Students' Welfare Fund was given for the statues and a plaque has also been stuck at the place. It is said that the opposing student organisation ABVP paste a sticker on the plaque. However UGS Rakesh Punjabi removed the sticker and it erupted a controversy.

It may be mentioned that on the day of Martyrs Day on Tuesday, two students organisations clashed over laying the wreath at the statue of martyrs. No another controversy starts over the removal of sticker on the plaque near the statues of three martyrs.

UGS Rakesh Punjabi said that in the year 2016-17, Rs 1,20,000 was saved from the fund by Commerce faculty GS Kashyap Thakkar. Hence it was decided to place the statue of martyrs at the unit building of the Commerce Faculty. The work of which was completed in the year 2018-19 by the then Commerce Faculty GS and the present UGS Rakesh Punjabi by talking to the university administration.
