The Om Raut-directorial is the screen adaptation of Ramayana. While Saif plays the antagonist, actor Prabhas will play the role inspired by Lord Ram.

The case has been filed by a lawyer in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, according to reports.

In an interview, earlier this month, Saif had said: “It’s interesting to play a demon king, less strictures in that. But we will make him humane, up the entertainment quotient, justify his abduction of Sita and the war with Ram as revenge for what was done to his sister Surpanakha by Lakshman, who cut off his nose.”

However, after facing backlash, he retracted his statement. “I’ve been made aware that one of my statements during an interview has caused a controversy and hurt people’s sentiments. This was never my intention or meant that way. I would like to sincerely apologise to everybody and withdraw my statement,” Khan, 50, said in a statement.

The case is in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM), who has fixed December 23 as the next date of hearing. According to reports, the plaintiff has alleged that Saif’s interview is a negative portrayal of “faith” and “faith in Sanatan Dharma”.
