Campaigning picks up for assembly elections in four states and the Union Territory

Campaigning picks up for assembly elections in four states- West Bengal, Kerala, Assam, Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory, Puducherry. In Assam, today is the penultimate day for filing of nomination in the third phase of polls. Polling will be held on the 6th of next month in 40 seats in this phase.

Senior Bodoland People’s Front leader and Minister Pramila Rani Brahma submitted nomination paper today for the Kokrajhar East seat. Her opponent and UPPL leader Lawrance Islary has also filed nomination . For BJP , senior leader and Minister in the Sonowal cabinet Siddhartha Bhattacharya filed his nomination for the prestigious East Guwahati seat while sitting Asom Gana Parishad legislator Ramendra Narayan Kalita also submitted his nomination for West Guwahati . Congress leader Ramen Barthakur filed his nomination for Jalukbari seat.

In Kerala, Candidates and senior party leaders of the State are actively campaigning. Election conventions of all the three major political fronts LDF, UDF and NDA are underway in various constituencies. Heated political discourses are on. Meanwhile tomorrow is the last day to submit the nominations in the state, and scrutiny will be held on Saturday. Over 400 nominations are filed till now in the State. Candidates can withdraw their nominations till 22nd of this month.

In West Bengal, campaigning is in full swing particularly in the areas going for elections at the first phase. Senior BJP leader, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public meeting at Bhangra More area in Purulia today.

Film star and TMC MP Dev will be holding a rally at Mahishadal in the same district while the party supremo, Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee will be addressing three rallies at Garbeta, Keshiyari and Kharagpur in West Medinipur today. Leaders of the Sanyukt Morcha are also holding meetings at East Medinipur where the state secretary of CPIM Surjyakanta Mishra and ISF leader Abbas Siddiqui are scheduled to address the rallies.

Electioneering is on at other parts of the state where the polling will be held in later phases. Candidates and star campaigners have been holding door to door campaigning at Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, Siliguri, Asansol and other cities as well as in villages. 30 constituencies will go for polling in the first phase on 27th of this month while elections will be held in eight phases for 294 constituencies of the state legislative assembly.
