Domestic equity and currency markets were shut today on account of Dussehra holiday. For the week, the Sensex and Nifty posted biggest weekly gains in more than a month. Closing above the 61,000-mark for the first time, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange rallied 1,247 points, or 2.1 percent during the holiday-curtailed week, to end at a fresh all time high of 61,306, yesterday.

The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange jumped points, or 2.5 percent during the week, to also close at new high of 18,339. In the past six trading sessions, the Sensex has added 2,116 points or 3.6 percent, and the Nifty has gathered more than 692 points or 3.9 percent.

At the forex market, the rupee depreciated 29 paise during the week to close at 75.26 against the dollar, yesterday.
