On Rakshabandhan day the Brahmins in Vadodara performed their thread changing (Janoi) ceremony by joining the rituals through online platform. The step was taken in view of the Corona scare where mass gathering is not a good idea to perform the ceremony. This time the Brahmins found the new to change their threads as well as stay safe at home.

Every year a mass Yajnopavit is organized by various Brahmin Samajs in Vadodara, but due to the Corona Pandemic this time the celebration is a low key affair. Taking the help of technology the Brahmins performed the thread changing ceremony online with rituals.

Shastri Bharatbhai Purohit said, the Corona pandemic has changed the lifestyle of everyone and considering the time and circumstances, everyone is also finding their own way. Brahmins have solution for every problem and hence they find the safest way to change their Janois. On the day of Rakshabandhan the Brahmins change the Yajnopavit through online pooja-recitation with the Vedokta mantra. Around 50 Brahmins joined in the thread changing ceremony.

Shastri Bharatbhai said, normally the ritual of Yajnopavit Sanskar lasts for four to five hours, but in the time Corona pandemic the ceremony has been completed in 40 minutes by a brief ritual. On this auspicious day, a resolution has been made by the Brahmins to pray to God that the corona epidemic will be eradicated from the world and India will soon find the corona vaccine.
